week notes s1e3 w/c 8th April
This week was my long awaited first week at the Co-op digital team. I’ve been eager to join since the day I accepted the offer and after a week’s holiday between jobs I was all set to get stuck in.
On-boarding experiences
Even before I joined the digital team I was impressed by their service design thinking around the on boarding experience of new starters. When I got back from America I had some lovely surprise post which was the perfect touch to making me feel welcomed and part of the team.
Then once I joined the team for my first day I joined in a retro and a team lunch.
Retro — Robyn another new delivery manager helped facilitate a really thoughtful retro to help extract team wellbeing and recent milestones
Team lunch — Day 1 the team had booked in for me to go out with them for a lunch. The day 1 experience is often overlooked and theres nothing more awkward then when you bring a lunch and sit on your own ( yes this has happened and too many organisations don’t think how this feels). Luckily the Co-Op are super thoughtful and it was a great way to get to know the team within the first few hours.
Planning — After carrying out some user testing last week the team needed to re-group and agree a plan of action for the next 2 weeks as Ben our product manager is on leave. Its been great to work as a team and agree our priorities so we’re finishing the week with clarity on how we all move forward.
So all in all I had a great start to the week and am excited for the next few weeks where I get up to speed with all things Co-Op Digital.
The power of habits
I’ve also just finished reading ‘Atomic Habits — an Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad One’ by James Clear. It helped to break down habit formation and habit removal into some simple steps and had helpful tips of ways to better build habits into your routine. I need to synthesise my key takeaways to ensure I’ve captured the most useful learnings. But
m’m looking forward to the JCI book club on Thursday where we’ll discuss what we found useful in the book.
It was good to know how having a habit tracker helps with encouraging habit formation, and as a Bullet Journaller having my tracker has really helped me to realise what I need to actively work at.
Health kick
Building off the Atomic Habits book I’ve been reading I had planned to start the week off with a new habit. Going to the gym before work.
The gym is around the corner and is on my way to the office. I was pleased to make it to 2 gym classes both 7am starts and for fighting the jet lag. Having a gym on route to the office makes it pretty hard to walk past and not go.
